I welcome you to the Fourth Quarter Convention of the 2018 – 2019 “Promise Yourself” Optimist year. It is hard to believe that our Fourth Quarter Convention is already upon us. We have a lot of business to conduct. Governor-Elect Sandi Cox will be conducting training for all her Club Presidents and Secretary/Treasurers. We will also have our Optimist International Guest in attendance -- Great Plains Region Vice President-Elect Lyle Merriam and wife Debbie from White City, Saskatchewan, Canada.
If you are a Lt. Governor or Club President, you are a member of the district board of directors and are responsible for representing the views of the clubs and members serving under your leadership. All attendees are invited to attend these meetings as well as the general sessions. We will begin on Friday morning, August 2nd with a General Session.
In one of our training sessions on Saturday, we will have a special guest speaker. Chris Davis is the Vice President, Prevention and Youth Support with the Community Partnership of the Ozarks. He will be speaking about “Youth Suicide Awareness”.
We are planning on a Community Service Project for Friday morning for those not attending the Club President and Secretary/Treasurer training. Details will be announced as soon as times are confirmed.
Friday evening, the Optimist Club of Ozark will be in charge of the Host Night Dinner. But, this time hopefully without the wind and the rain. It will be held at The Oasis Conference Center – East Parking Lot, Friday, August 2nd, from 5:30 pm – 7:00 pm. Dinner will be Hamburgers, Hot Dogs, Chips, Drinks, and Desserts only $10 per person, paid at the dinner. Proceeds will benefit Care to Learn. The cost for this event is not included in the Convention Registration.
As a district, we will be collecting School Supplies to be donated to the Boys and Girls Clubs of Springfield. Bring donations to be collected in the Hall of Optimism on Friday and Saturday.
The hospitality room will again be in the capable hands of the Charlie and Debbie Jerman. They will provide plenty of food and fun over the weekend. Please support them as it does take an immense amount of effort, planning and funds to keep the hospitality room available for you. Thank you, Charlie and Debbie.
The Fun Master, Garrett Hill has again prepared some excitement for the convention. Garrett has turned up the competition level this quarter and doubled down on the fun. Friday night after dinner we will have the preliminary round of the 2nd Annual WEMO Corn Hole Tournament. Teams will compete to move on to the finals on Saturday night after Dinner. Bring your competitive spirit and take it to the next level.
Meals for the Convention are:
Friday Lunch: The Deli Board – Make your own sandwich includes Chips, Garden Salad w/dressing and Seasonal Fruit, and Chefs Dessert
Saturday Rise and Shine Breakfast: The Sunrise – Fluffy scrambled eggs, Yukon Gold Breakfast Potatoes, Turkey Sausage, Biscuits with Butter and Preserves
Saturday Lunch: House Made Lasagna, Oasis Signature Salad, Vegetable, Chefs Dessert, Warm Rolls and Butter
Saturday Dinner: The Oasis Dinner Buffet – Salad, Warm Rolls and Butter, Vegetable, with a choice of two entrees – Caribbean Jerk Chicken with Spicy Mango Glaze or Braised Beef Filet Tips with Wild Mushrooms, and Chef’s Dessert
We are heading into the home stretch. Keep asking for individuals to join your club. More members will help make your Club healthier. Use your activities as a recruiting event. Just Ask. What’s the worst that can happen, they say No? But, they could say YES! Use every opportunity to grow your membership.
It’s not too late – we can finish strong! A strong club is a healthy club and helps more kids in your community.Keep working -- we can make this happen. See you all in Springfield.
Governor, West Missouri
