I welcome you to the Third Quarter Conference of the 2018 – 2019 “Promise Yourself” Optimist year. As a Lt. Governor, Club President, or member of the district board of directors, you are responsible for representing the views of the clubs and members serving under your leadership. All attendees are invited to attend these meetings as well as the general sessions. We will begin on Friday evening, May 10th at 8:00 pm, with the District Executive Meeting. On Saturday morning, we will start with the Board Meeting and General Session.
The highlight of the 3rd Quarter Conference is our Oratorical Contest and the Communication Contest for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Contest (CCDHH). If you have not seen this competition before you’re missing out. This competition is what we strive to do as Optimists – “To Bring out the Best”. Come to support these competitors and bring someone that hasn’t seen this before.
This will be a busy conference. Along with the oratorical contests, we will have some other interesting breakout sessions to further your optimist experience. It’s time for Club and Lt. Governor elections. Each club is responsible to submit their Officer Election Reports by May 20th. Each club is required to submit this report, even if you’re keeping the same officers. If you do not know how to submit this report contact your Lt. Governor or myself. Lt. Governor elections will be held during this conference, for those zones that have not already had elections. Lt. Governors, please conduct zone elections to find your replacement.
Also, any suggested revisions to the district polices need to be submitted to Caleb Lewis, District Policy Chair. These policy changes need to be submitted and brought before the District Executive Committee for a vote to bring the policy changes before the Board of Directors.
Several JOI Clubs will be gathering for their own conference this weekend. Please contact West Missouri’s Joanna Doyel (816) 673-9300, should you have any questions regarding this JOI conference.
Meals for this conference will be:
|Lunch||Plated Turkey Croissant Sandwich with Potato Salad|
|Dinner||Grilled Chicken Picatta, Rice Pilaf, Green Beans and Centennial Cookies|
The hospitality room will be in the capable hands of the Charlie and Debbie Jerman. They will provide plenty of food and fun over the weekend. Please support them as it does take an immense amount of effort, planning and funds to keep the hospitality room available for you. Thank you, Charlie and Debbie.
We’re bringing the FUN back to district conferences. Come join in! Friday night following the Executive Committee meeting will be Hospitality Family Game Night/Trivia and more. Following dinner on Saturday evening we’ll enjoy the WEMO Mini Golf Invitational. We are off to a good start. Keep asking for individuals to join your clubs. Use your activities as a recruiting event. Just Ask. Want is the worst that can happen, they say No. But they could say YES. Use every opportunity to grow your membership.
We’re at the half-mile pole, another half-mile to go. Let’s start the drive home … See you in Independence!
Larry Lynch, Governor
